-----Urgent Action----- California Senate Bill SB320 Workers' compensation: administration and benefits. INTRODUCED BY Senator Solis Governor Davis Vetoes SB 320
SB 320 proposed to increase workers’ compensation benefits. Governor Davis rejected the measure because it did not meet his administration’s test of moderation. "While I recognize that some benefits for injured workers have fallen behind the cost of living in recent years, SB 320 increases benefits far beyond what I believe California employers can absorb without negatively impacting the economy," Governor Davis said in his veto message. If enacted, SB 320 would have cost the state more than $2 billion by the time it was fully implemented in 2005, according to estimates by the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Board. In his veto message Governor Davis indicated his willingness to support a more moderate measure improving benefits for the state’s injured workers. Contact the Governor and voice
