Announcing The Marriage of Our Daughter:
Miss Teamster Joint Council 7 to
Mr. BFI, Tyrannical Corporate Master

THE STEWARD
EDITORIAL OPINION
Mandatory Overtime

The STEWARD urges the Bay Area cities that have contracted with BFI
to stop BFI from working their employees to death.  It is inhumane as
well as unsafe for the drivers and citizens to have exhausted Teamsters on
our roads working 12 to 14 hours a day.  Chuck Mack's, Teamster Local
70 drivers that work for Waste Management also suffer from inhumane
mandatory overtime.
Neighborhood Accidents waiting to happen!

The cities must take a stand as union leadership refuses to protect
their members as well as our citizens from this Draconian measure.

The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights
of 10 December 1948, Article 24

Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation
of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.

What will you do about it?

As stated in Charles Walker's feature article Bay Area Garbage Strikers
Dumped-On by Teamster Leaders, "But BFI slapped the officials in the
face by adding a new contract requirement that union  "accredited
representatives" may not set foot on the BFI property without first
obtaining "advance approval," after giving "reasonable advance notice"
to the District Vice President".

This clause greatly weakens the unions ability to investigate unfair labor
practices.  It is like warning the fox invading the hen house, that you are
coming.  Under the National Labor Relations Act, this agreement inhibits
the administration of a labor organization (U.S.C. TITLE 29, CHAPTER
7, SUBCHAPTER II, § 158. Unfair labor practices (a)(2).

Why is Teamster Local 315 and Joint Council 7
giving away the hen house?

It is time for company management to treat workers, like you and I, with
fairness and humanity.  It is time for labor leaders of the Bay Area to
unite and represent the worker's interests and avoid the appearance of
Marriage to Corporate Masters.
