BRIEFS
Swearing-in:  About 50 Sikhs, the men in colorful turbans and the women in flowing saris came to honor one of their own at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.  Keerat Singh was sworn in as one of six new members of the Hayward Youth Commission.

Keerat is a Sophomore at Hayward High School.  He was elected Sophomore Class Secretary and serves as Secretary of  California Scholarship Federation (C.S.F.) Keerat represents Hayward High School at the C.S.F. state wide assemblies.

SUBJECT: Appointments and Reappointments to Youth Commission 

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution confirming the reappointment of five Youth Commissioners and the appointment of six new members to the Youth Commission. 

BACKGROUND:

On May 18, 2000, a panel consisting of members from the City Council, Hayward Area Recreation and Park District Board and the Hayward Unified School District Board conducted six interviews to fill vacancies to the Hayward Youth Commission. The panel also recommended confirmation of five reappointments expiring June 2002, and six new members for appointment.
