Re: Marty Frates – Use of Profanity on Company Property
Dear Brother Silva:
I am addressing this letter to you because Section 7, paragraph G of the
Local 70 Bylaws states; "It shall be his (the presidents) duty to
see that all business agents perform their assigned duties."
This correspondence is in response to the
letter of May 27, 1997 (copy attached) from Marty Frates. Brother Frates
has indicated that he believes it is acceptable for a Business Representative
to use profanity when addressing fellow Teamsters in the workplace. Brother
Frates did not deny the allegations outlined in my
letter of May 8, 1997 (copy attached). Furthermore, he feels that his
actions should not be taken seriously and he doesn't intend to change his
behavior. Brother Frates must be held to the same standard as those he
represents. He ought to be setting an example for the rest of us.
The action that Local 70 took against Eric Matthews precisely delineates
it's position on this matter. Eric was taken before the Executive Board,
fined and subsequently threatened with further legal actions for using
profanity when speaking to Business Representative, Gabe Ybarrolaza.
Please consider this letter to be a formal demand that Marty Frates be
taken before the Executive Board.
Fraternally,
Craig Gonsalves
