Dear Craig:
It is apparent from your letter of May 22, 1997
that you misunderstand your role as a member of Local 70.
In the 1995 election of officers you ran for recording secretary and lost.
You are not an officer, neither are you a shop steward. As such, you have
no authority and are not authorized to advise Local 70 members as to who
their shop stewards may or may not be—that is the role of the shop stewards
and elected representatives.
I agree with you on one thing, every member has the right to know who represents
them as shop steward. As I am sure you know, Jerry McCoy and Robert Alameda
are your shop stewards in the Oakland Center.
In the future, if a UPS member should ask you about shop stewards please
direct them to their elected business agent or the shop stewards in your
center.
