Elaine,

I am writing this to comment on the "so-called" enchancements to the management retirement plan.

Why does UPS feel that management deserve less than what the hourly receive? Does the company feel that the management job is not as hard, stressful, or less of a work day than the hourly?

I believe that whoever is representing the management is so far from reality that they have no idea what the job of supervisor or manager is about. We(management) have been lied to so much over the last five years that maybe our company feels we are stupid and will think this enhancement is something great.

We were told that there were two reasons for us to start paying part of our benefits:

1. So we could get the hourly to do so also, but we didn’t want to collect from them until we showed that the non union was also paying.

2. By helping pay for benefits we would see increases in stock growth because of the saving for the company in benefit costs.

FACT. Another contract, no sharing of benefit costs by union employees.

Maybe I’m misinformed, but I have not seen any great increases in stock.

We were told not to feel let down when the company offered stock to the hourly. Hourly would have to pay for theirs and management would be given theirs. Stock was always the incentive for management to work hard, put up with stress, work long hours and be on call l244 hours a day 7 days a week. guess that when hourly started getting stock the company forgot about this.

That is why the Union has better retirement than management.

By letting hourly purchase stock the results would be more involved employees taking care of the company. We would also see new growth in the stock.

FACT. It didn’t work. The hourly not only supported the union request for a strike vote but also carried it out. Looks like the hourly really cared for UPS. I still have not seen any great increases in stock growth.

We (management) were told the reasons the stock growth was slow was because of losses in international. When international makes a profit we will see the stock skyrocket!

FACT. The international made a profit as of June. What happened to the stock,it went down.

Let’s give everything to the union. The dumb old dedicated supervisors and managers that supported the company during the work stoppage by keeping the air running, cleaning out the system, and being prepared to fight for a company victory was again let down. Same for the retirement enchancement.

· Why would anyone want to go from union hourly to management?

· What are the benefits of going into management?

· Do we tell interested hourly the truth?

BENEFITS OF GOING INTO MANAGEMENT

· Plan to work 10 to 12 years longer to be able to retire.

· Plan to pay for part of your benefits.

· Plan on working 10 hours a day, 50 hours a week.

You will have unlimited personal holidays, but don’t try to take one. If you do manage to get a day off don’t expect it to be on Friday, we will need you that day to help plan coverage for all the hourly that are off.

You will have unlimited sick days, but don’t call in sick, you will be made to feel that you are letting the company down. You will get 25 phone calls while you are off to answer questions about your job. If you are sick an extended time you will be asked if you can do some paperwork to help justify your pay. You will get vacation, but don’t plan on the six weeks you got

last year as hourly, you will only get 4 this year. Your personals and sick days do not count as vacation time in management, because you get unlimited.

Of course as hourly you get paid any unused personal days or sick days. Don’t expect this as a management person. The company will give you a half months pay at Christmas, I guess this is your payoff on personals and sick days, not the bounus for doing a good job as you will be told.

Finally you will be given UPS stock. This is the incentive for working the hard, long, and stressful hours. You will receive between 100 and 150 shares of stock. But if you stay hourly and work 10 hours a day, 50 hours a week, you can purchase over 400 shares of stock. Making $20.00 an hour as hourly it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that at 2 hours overtime a day as hourly you can purchase 2 shares of stock a day. So if you want to work 50 hours a week why go into management? It can’t be for the stock.

What the company needs to do is form a Management Concerns Committee to address the concerns of the management people. After this committee meets and all the above concerns are brought out and we have gone through bureaucratic runaround, we can find out that as dumb old supervisors our main concern is getting to wear casual clothing on Fridays.

Come on UPS! Let’s get into the real world and address what really is on the minds of your dedicated, hardworking management.

Elaine,

Thanks for taking time to read this. Will you please forward this to the Region and Corporate Concerns Committee, if there is such a committee as this.
